From the outside, the curved lines of this state-of-the-art facility at Mangere evoke the trademark Sistema ‘Klip’; inside, the crisp white surroundings speak of the plastics manufacturer’s quest for efficiency and its world-beating standards. But perhaps the most striking aspect of the building is its sheer scale: 53,000m² on a 10 hectare site, including 44,000m² of production floor and automated racking, along with 3,300m² of high-quality corporate offices and 1,600m² of plant rooms to provide the necessary infrastructure to service the automated production lines. It’s big and bold, reflecting Sistema’s ambitious vision, yet organised with maximum precision to enable the smooth and logical flow of materials, people and resources through the production process. Opened in 2016, the facility won the Property Council New Zealand Supreme Award the following year.
